Accomplishments:

Bhagubai Changu Thakur College of Law proudly announces the successful completion of a legal aid camp, reinforcing our commitment to community service. Additionally, our students are actively serving as para-legal volunteers at the District Legal Service Authority in Raigad, showcasing our dedication to practical legal education and making a positive impact in the legal community.

Services:

The Legal Aid Centre at Bhagubai Changu Thakur College of Law provides free legal aid to sections of society entitled to such services under Section 12 of the Legal Services Authorities Act, 1987.

Legal Literacy Programs:

In response to the prevalent lack of legal awareness in the Indian community, the Legal Aid Centre actively conducts programs in collaboration with diverse social organizations, Gram Panchayats, and other entities. These initiatives specifically target villages, farmers, slum dwellers, women, school children, social workers, and more, delivering need-based information about pertinent laws. Additionally, our commitment to women empowerment is reflected in collaborative efforts with the Women Development Cell of our college. In this regard, legal support centers have been established in various Gram Panchayats, further augmented by the installation of complaint boxes at these locations, amplifying our outreach and engagement in the community.

Legal Aid Clinic:

The Legal Aid Centre's clinic operates five days a month, diligently addressing a broad spectrum of legal grievances. Providing free legal advice, the clinic serves clients who face financial constraints in affording legal fees, ensuring accessible and inclusive legal assistance. The center focuses on providing free legal advice for those in need, without offering financial aid.

Dispute Resolution:

The center endeavors to settle disputes amicably through negotiations and conciliations. In cases of failure, litigation support is extended to financially disadvantaged clients.

Lok Adalats:

Participation in Lok Adalats at Alibagh District Court, Panvel, and Belapur Court offers students invaluable practical exposure to alternative dispute resolution mechanisms. Engaging in real-world legal proceedings, students gain firsthand experience in the dynamics of resolving disputes outside the traditional courtroom setting. This initiative not only enhances their understanding of ADR but also strengthens their skills in navigating legal complexities.

Other Activities:

Beyond its core legal aid initiatives, the center diversifies student experiences by organizing visits to institutions such as Taloja Jail and Alibagh Jail. These excursions provide students with firsthand exposure to the legal landscape within correctional facilities, fostering a deeper understanding of legal processes and challenges faced by individuals within the justice system. By engaging with these institutions, students gain practical insights that complement their academic knowledge, contributing to a well-rounded legal education. These activities also serve to instill a sense of social responsibility and empathy among future legal professionals.

Associations with Community Leaders:

The Bhagubai Changu Thakur College of Law Legal Aid Centre actively collaborates with diverse organizations to provide legal aid, with a notable association being established with Gram Panchayats. Through the establishment of legal support centers, we aim to extend legal assistance to grassroots communities, emphasizing accessibility and community-centric legal services. This collaboration underscores our commitment to fostering meaningful partnerships that contribute to the welfare and empowerment of the local community.

Publications:

The Legal Aid Centre takes an active role in knowledge dissemination through the creation of legal literacy material in Marathi/English, featuring informative posters. To encourage student engagement, the center organizes competitions covering a range of crucial topics, including Sexual Harassment of Women, the New Education Policy, Dowry Prohibition, and more. These initiatives not only promote a deeper understanding of legal issues but also foster a culture of participation and awareness within the student community, contributing to the broader goals of legal education and societal awareness.

The establishment of Bhagubai Changu Thakur College of Law Legal Aid Centre is aimed at imparting Clinical Legal Education and providing social-legal services to the underprivileged sections of the community. Recognizing the importance of exposing law students to practical aspects of the legal field, the Legal Aid Centre strives to fulfill this purpose while also offering a platform to serve the needs of the poor and vulnerable.
